The full drama of Mahler’s all-embracing second symphony comes to life in performance in a way that very few recordings can hope to capture. With enlarged orchestral forces and a 140-strong choir this work is truly epic, offering up the composer’s apocalyptic vision of life, death and the hereafter. The work exemplifies Mahler’s innovative compositional approach, creating a »world of its own« in symphonic form.

Mahler himself took his first professional conducting job just south of Linz in the summer of 1880. The Bruckner Orchester Linz is joined by the Choruses from Bournemouth, Leeds and Sheffield, all with illustrious histories of their own. With 200 musicians and singers on stage together performing Mahler’s momentous work, get ready for a mind-blowing experience.

The orchestra of Bruckner’s home town plays his majestic Eighth Symphony, plus Mozart’s Haffner Symphony.

Huge gothic cathedrals, mighty Alpine peaks… people have compared Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony to many things. In fact, it’s a spiritual epic of awe-inspiring grandeur and emotional power – and under its new chief conductor Markus Poschner, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz plays it with unparalleled insight and authenticity.
